An Interpreter’s Leadership Toolkit – lessons from an interpreter turned manager

Getting promoted to a role where you’re someone’s “boss” can feel like you’ve been thrown into the deep end – not only has your job changed, but you’re seen differently too. And leading people in cultural organisations and non-profits comes with its own unique set of challenges: stretched budgets, ever-increasing expectations, complex internal and external relationships. While leading people is something that can only be learned through practice, there are useful theories, tools and models out there. This webinar will introduce some examples to help you understand how you and others work, improve team dynamics and communication, and get a more strategic perspective on your work. Anyone whose work requires collaboration with others will get something useful from the session – whether you’re someone’s boss or not.

About the presenter: Dr Regan Forrest is Director of Interactivate, a strategy and leadership development consultancy that works with cultural institutions of all types. She worked for nearly 15 years as an interpretive planner and exhibition developer, before unexpectedly landing in a senior leadership position at a major cultural institution. This webinar draws on her experience and things she learned the hard way through a decade of leadership positions in museums and local government.
