Recreating tourism through heritage interpretation – Interpret Europe Conference
October 1, 2021 - October 4, 2021
Interpret Europe web conference – 1 to 4 October 2021
EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION ENDS 5 SEPTEMBER 2021.
Experiencing heritage should bring added value to people’s lives. Encouraging more meaningful experiences can lead to more mindfulness among visitors as well as among local people. Can interpretation support communities around heritage sites to re-launch tourism in a more sustainable way?
Our 2021 conference aims to share and exchange the theory and practice of interpretive approaches to the development of tourism and to rethink the role heritage interpretation plays in tourism and in community development at tourist destinations.
You can expect a packed programme of more than 30 presentations, workshops and speeches plus panel discussions, thematic tables, speaker’s corner, some fun activities to clear your heads, networking opportunities and small but exciting contributions from our attendees from across Europe and beyond.
Our keynote speakers, Gianna Moscardo (James Cook University, Australia), Iulia Niculica (European Travel Commission, Belgium), Ben Lynam (Travel Foundation, UK) and Albert Salman (Green Destinations, The Netherlands) will present most recent ideas and trends in tourism. We are also looking forward to welcoming some special guests, including Kate Clark (Western Sydney University, Australia) who will discuss the role of heritage values in communities.
Your engagement opportunities
You can send us podcasts or features within the categories Taste of your place, Photovoice, or The power of creativity. Or you record a podcast with the main conference theme. Our virtual conference can be special only with your personal intervention. You can find more information here. [Link: www.interpreteuropeconference.net/programme]
Take the chance, as well, to contribute during the conference during thematic tables and virtual coffee tables, at the whiteboard, and by feeding our conference barometer.
Of course, we don’t expect you to stay in front of your screen from morning until evening on all four days. You should pick what you expect to enjoy and, if you hear that you missed something, you can catch up on all the key sessions which we are recording. The conference proceedings, including all the full papers we received, will be available when the conference begins.
